rock-a-bye baby, thy cradle is orange

How many Swedish lullabies are sung for the babies in this bed? It's an old Swedish crib.
Soo cute, beautiful and useful, because it can grow with the baby.

The orange crib is not for sale, however the hand crocheted baby blankets and mini stools are for sale in the shop.

The kitchen stool got a new twirl outfit and I got a new favorite travel book about 125 weekends in Europe.

This morning I've been busy compiling a couple of destinations for 2013...

annual wood & wool review

From a wood & big wool stool in January to the traditional tree in December.

I thoroughly enjoyed the wood & wool work and have lots of inspiration for 2013!

and the winner is...

Silly Old Suitcase!

Thanks everyone for the nice comments and for participating. With 96 candidates in the give away, everyone had about 1% chance to win.

The little notes all went into the pink Moroccan basket, before they were skilfully mixed and stirred by Pippa and she drew the note with Silly Old Suitcase's name on it.

Congratulations Maartje, THE NEW ENCYCLOPEDIA OF CROCHET TECHNIQUES is coming soon!

For all others, it's not the end of the world (twice) and soon there will be another give away.

dark days before christmas

Saved me a trip to the bottle bank and with some iron wire, glass jars turn into brilliant outdoor lights.

[One more dark day to join the give away!]

Minne, the oldest, is a journalism student and writes weekly sports reports for the newspaper.
Recently he asked me, to take his picture for a press card.
Sure, I said.
At the moment I took the camera he could not possibly get a serious face.
We had lots of fun. I don't know which photo he finally chose for his press card.
I chose the last blurry one of half Minne to frame.

Ps: the give away is still running!

x-mas bliss

x-mas bliss by wood & wool stool
x-mas bliss, a photo by wood & wool stool on Flickr.

Here at home, it's getting slowly but surely really Christmassy. Unpacking the old traditional Christmas goodies gives me every year that Aha experience. I've found some 'new' items in Lammie's shop; the bright pink bauble is vintage and also is the shiny vine leaf.

A huge thanks to all the entries on the give away and remember you can still participate!

Pippa is looking forward to draw a winner on Friday night...

christmas cabinet

christmas cabinet by wood & wool stool
christmas cabinet, a photo by wood & wool stool on Flickr.

Wool cupboard turns into Christmas cabinet.
For the occasion I stored the wool temporary in another place.
This to make space for some small collections of Christmas stuff;
a row of angels on top
then a row of birds,
followed by a row of baubles
a row with a hodgepodge of decorations (bells, church, Santa, snow globe with nativity scene)
a row of all kinds of animals (peacock, deer, fish, squirrel)
a row of hearts
and at the bottom there are some empty squares...(the time being)

At the back of the entire cabinet I attached a line of LED lights. Oh yeah!

The memory cards are from Tate Modern.

Remember this?

Look what I've found in the Christmas box on the attic; the stars of 2011! (and now I can recall, the yellow one I bought in the sale after Christmas...)

Well, more is more!

Christmas countdown has begun!
Only 2 weeks until Christmas Eve, so let's proceed with the x-mas decorations at home.
Time to unpack the hand painted wooden feather tags (by The Great Lakes Goods). We scored them at Anthropologie in London.

This morning I've also hung the colored lights in the tree in the front yard.

christmas chandelier

The huge chandelier in the restaurant of Villa Augustus gets an extra festive outfit every Christmas season.

For the fifth consecutive year, I climbed the ladder to decorate the major lamp.

The edition of 2012 is one with boys and girls. Fortunately, I got help from two sweethearts with the hundred heads.

Last week I noticed the fun x-mas stuff in the Sloppop shop. I fell in love with Santa (sewn together by Liesbeth, yeah!) and his boots!

Kotka is the name of this Suomi tree, it's a port town in the south of Finland.

The newest wood & wool x-mas trees are sixteen* Suomi trees. I've made them today, while it was snowing! The handmade trees are now for sale in my Etsy shop.

Have fun hunting out a x-mas tree!

*please note; Espoo, Lahti, Salo, Joensuu & Kouvola are already sold and x-mas tree Lahti even goes to Finland!

Sunday afternoon during the 'autumn storm' we brought a visit to Rotterdam.
At Sissy Boy Homeland we bought some Christmas decorations.
In the shop various white stars flickered on the high ceiling. Very beautiful!
We chose this star to bring home and put it high on the locker cabinet.
There's a light inside for a somewhat early x-mas mood!

the book is always better

Yesterday I got the new book by Dottie Angel and Rachelle Blondel as a present. Thank you! It's beautiful! Each and every page is granny chic and a joy to see and read.
The book is about crafty recipes & inspiration for the handmade home and lovely photography by Catherine Gratwicke.

And remember to take this good advice;
do feel a little crafty at least twice a day

A large knitted sweater with 'net stockings' and sneakers?
It may sound weird, but I think it's a cool outfit.

Today the mailman brought a H & M package.
Tonight after work I found the online purchases and though I had not ordered the garments as one outfit (I never buy complete sets) the unexpected combination seemd really awesome to me when I tried it on accidentally.

I'm wearing:
H&M gift of the week & magic legging by Maison Martin Margiela with black New Balance sneakers

dutch & vintage

dutch & vintage by wood & wool stool
dutch & vintage, a photo by wood & wool stool on Flickr.
Saturday afternoon I went to see Lammie and we had tea.
Obviously I looked around in her pleasant shop, during our tea sip.
In a corner I found two iron plant holders.
I saw them hanging at our front door during the Christmas season, with red berries plants or candles in glass jars.
Once at home I noticed the amaryllis bulb lying on a plate and figured it would be nice to put it in my new pot holder.

Amaryllis bulbs have a high [Tulips from Holland] content.
I never really know whether I like them or not. As sprouting bulb I like them best, though with the cultivated flower it's not my cup of tea.

Some weeks ago Inck send me a traditional Dutch tile from Oh Marie (The Fellowship of the Travelling Vintage Items) and I think this vintage tile matches very well with the bulb and pot holders.

Who wants to be the next member of the Fellowship and welcome the waving girl with tulips?
